Honeycomb Slip Stitch Cloth

This was my first attempt to make my own pattern (after I felt I had mastered Grandma's Favorite).

The pattern stitch came from page 27 of the Dell Purse Book Pattern Stitches published in 1972. The cover price was all of $.25!

Both the right and the wrong side of this pattern create interesting looks and it works up nice in variegated yarn.
The pattern is worked on an odd number of stitches and 4 rows. The borders are 4 stitches on each side and 6 rows top and bottom. The borders are all knit in this pattern.
Cast on 43 stitches.
Rows 1-6: knit across.
Row 7: knit across.
Row 8: knit 4, *k1, slip1 repeat from * across to last 5 stitches, knit 5.
Row 9: knit across.
Row 10: knit 4, *slip 1, k 1 repeat from * across to last 3 stitches, knit 3.
Repeat rows 7-10 until cloth is almost square, about 60 rows.
Knit 6 rows, casting off on a wrong side row.
I used size 7 or 8 needles, with a finished size of 8x8" in the cloth pictured.
